the Eastern Yellow Robin

a picnic area is a bad place for weight watching birds!

This annoying little bird really frustrated me on three consecutive weekend trips by refusing to sit still long enough for me to snap a decent shot! Finally, at Cranbourne, I found one of them who was a little less shy right next to a picnic area, where I could sit still 'n prop my hands on a bench for a steady shot!

Excellent shots Chris

Inseperable

Just you and me...
Came across this pair of butterflies on the steps of the Shrine (a war memorial) today. The pair were inseperable... even if someone came nearby, the male would fly off, carrying (that's right, the female didn't flap its wings at all) the female with it. Ok I'll be honest, I tried tickling one of them to try to get it to open its wings, but neither butterfly flinched! (I know I shouldn't have ).

Ah if only people showed such devotion to each other..

Lovely picture, great detail Sat 22-Nov-2003 14:11

The only problem with me having moved out of my old apartment is that I'm expecting a package do be delivered to that address. Went back again today, still no sign of it... hopefully it'll come tomorrow; I'd hate to have to ride all the way there every day for the next week. Not that I mind the distance.. it's just kinda.. boring

Today's picture theme is things that move! Btw, I'm using the last one for "motion" in 26 things..

Not for the faint of heart!

See below for the story on this frying pan
View all 5 photos...
These pics show the state of the kitchen in the apartment which I so gladly moved out of today! Disgusting just doesn't cut it. Let me explain the story of that frying pan. It is used by one of my housemates. Each day, he fries two eggs on it till they're almost burnt, scrapes off the edible bits and leaves the rest in the pan. Notice I didn't say anything about washing or scrubbing the pan. That's right, with each passing day, an additional layer of egg is added to the pan. You see, apparently washing up isn't something anyone else in the apartment sees as important, hence the sky high pile of dishes. Initially I thought I'd be nice and help them clean the dishes, but once schoolwork got heavy I just couldn't cope, and anyway my efforts didn't seem to have much effect. The day I took that picture (16th nov) was my first day home in a week. I won't speculate how long those dishes were in that sink, but there was the distinct smell of rotting eggs and meat coming from the sink, and when I tried to wash my own dish, the sink simply flooded because it was clogged with a 5mm layer of old rice.

On to the story of the milk and the brocoli in the fridge. I have no idea whose they are, but both those artifacts have been in the fridge since late August. It did occur to me that I should throw them out, but I was rather interested to see how long their owners would be able to put off doing that. They far outdid my expectations!

Don't get me wrong, my housemates are great people in every other aspect save this, just that I've gotta let it outta my system and move on ! Anyway I'm glad to be out of there, will be looking forward to having new housemates next year! Hopefully it'll be a much better experience

I`m from Australia originally....Now here in the States.Ozz is a great place.
Greay photos and nice page...

Almost didn't have a photo to put up for today, but this idea came up when I was taking my idea for "the end" in 26 things. That's Jas's hand gracing the picture.

It was a chilly day today with the temperature suddenly dropping to 15 degrees. That's actually not very cold, but it's a big contrast from yesterday's 36 degrees! Ah well.. it's Melbourne after all...

great

i like the second pictures composition and the end is very fitting for your 26th things thing..honestly, the way i took the old/new thing was that in the last 'challenge' one of the words was new and she crossed it out and put old for this challenge..sort of you know..being humourous..although i could be wrong and usually am..and geez at all the smileys we have now i just had to try one out hehe Mon 17-Nov-2003 04:29

This is a great idea for the "end." I can't wait to see all the entries. I am about 2/3's of the way done. Mon 17-Nov-2003 14:16

Rainbow Lorikeets!

View all 6 photos...
These birds can be found all over Melbourne, as long as its not too urban. Their shrill calls can be heard frequently at dusk and dawn. I chanced upon a bunch of the colourful parrots on my way to the supermarket this evening. The photos have a bit of digital noise, 'coz I set the ISO rating to 800 in order to take handheld shots, so sorry 'bout that!

Hope y'all are having a fabulous Sunday!

Beth, actually you're spot on! they do spend quite a bit of time upside down, especially when they're playing with each other (like in the photo), or reaching for food that's on the branches below! Mon 17-Nov-2003 03:18

It must be fun to live where these birds are all around. Your pictures of them are wondereful, they are such beautiful colors. Do they have a special name? Mon 17-Nov-2003 14:13

the birds are called rainbow lorikeets! They're really pretty. Another common cousin of theirs is the crimson rosella Wed 19-Nov-2003 03:35

a Hoop

Took this photo while sitting outside my friend's house waiting to be let in. The sun was blazing today, and I was toasted in the short 15 minutes of waiting, exposed to Australia's high UV content radiation. Temperature today was 32C. It'll go up to 33 tomorrow! I'm so glad I'll be back home in Singapore before it hits the 40s!

are you going to stay in singapore now that your exams are over or are you just going back there for awhile? is jas going to go to singapore too? Sat 15-Nov-2003 18:55

Hello Beth! I'll be going back to Singapore a week earlier than Chris.. We'll be going back just for about 2 months.. Coming back here to enjoy Melbourne! Maybe Sydney if we have time.. And take MORE photos!! Sun 16-Nov-2003 04:12

I never imagined a pond in the park could be so fascinating! The photos were taken at Carlton Gardens, a small park outside Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building. Students from Melbourne University were taking economics examinations in the building at the time, and when they cheerfully stormed out of the building after their paper, I decided it was time to leave before they swarmed the entire park!

good eye! These are excellent photos Sat 15-Nov-2003 01:03

A midnight snack!

Crackers
Dip
Cheap caviar
View all 5 photos...
Jas needed a break, so we had a quick snack together. Watching her mug into the wee hours of the morning makes me glad my exams are over! Still, I'll have to sit by her most nights till she's through with hers... I can hardly wait till HER exams end; I'm running out of photo ideas in this apartment!!

Looks like you are eating good things while you wait. That toy is a bank from Radio Shack. You put a coin on his hand and press down and he raises his hand up and puts the coin in his mouth then down to his tummy. It is an incredibily sturdy toy and has survived all 7 of my grandkids. They would be entertained for hours by feeding him pennies. Wed 12-Nov-2003 14:36

Well ok just 10,000km actually. Hit my first 10,000th km on my bike today! Ok I know that doesn't sound like much to all you pro roadies out there (some of them do that in a couple of months, it's taken me about a year!), but hey how many of you got to photograph that moment! Praise God for tiny digicams! I'll just put up one or two pics of the trip to Malacca (a state in Malaysia) we made in May. I actually have tonnes more photos, but they're all on the computer back in Singapore... darn..

Ok I'm gonna go stretch, eat some carbs 'n go look for more "26 things" photos!

Heh no worries Sean! Taken about 300 photos while riding with no incident! Thanks for the concern though! Tue 11-Nov-2003 12:59
