Disconnected!

Haven't been able to upload photos, and won't be able to for another month 'coz my new house (yes I've got a new rental habitat down under!) has no phone line, and the dumb ozzie red tape means it takes 1 week to connect a phone and three to get broadband active. Bah. Will post a bunch of pictures up when I get back online!

Sounds typical of OZZ...... Sat 28-Feb-2004 15:53

More photos from the parade.. didn't finish uploading 'em 'coz I fell asleep!
The picture quality is rather lacklustre because I was using the 1600 ISO setting and I couldn't use the viewfinder (I was shooting holding the camera above the crowd).

Wow these are awsome pics mate...So many to go through...Great set... Thanks for sharing. Thu 5-Feb-2004 03:02

The Chingay parade

Crowds of people line the road
all eager to get a decent glimpse of the procession

View all 24 photos...
The Chingay (pronounced ching-gay) festival was yesterday, and to mark the event on the lunar calendar, a parade is held annually along Orchard Road. During the Chingay parade, performers, floats and people in all sorts of traditional and fancy costumes parade down the shopping heart of Singapore, Orchard Road. It's the only time you'll find the road closed to traffic. The parade contingents represent various commercial, cultural, religious and arts organisations of various nationalities that have become a part of Singapore.

For those of you that don't know, Singapore is a multicultural nation. There's no "local" race here, it's a big stir-fry of Chinese, Malays, Indians, Caucasians etc. If you want to go back into history, then the first people on the island were Malay. But at the point of independence, Singapore was already a multicultural society.

Went to visit my relatives on my mother's side in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) over the weekend. During the first 15 days of the Lunar New Year, it is customary to go around visiting relatives and wishing each other well for the new year. It's not such a bad thing, as it helps us stay in touch with even our distant relatives. I hadn't seen my relatives in KL for over two years!

Staying on the 35th floor of a hotel allowed me to take the above shots.

Lunar New Year

View all 8 photos...
Hello all! Writing this on the second day of the Lunar New Year (Being Chinese means we get to celebrate new year twice!). Sorry 'bout the long leave of absence... eating porridge for a week straight put me out of the mood to do anything.

I should've taken these photos earlier to catch the bustling atmosphere in Chinatown, but weather and schedule didn't permit. I went down tonight anyway, in the hope of giving a glimpse of what it's like. The huge throngs of crowds aren't there (it's crowded right up to new year's eve), but the decorations are all still up.

Towering concrete...

This is suntec city's Tower No. 5 viewed from the courtyard of Millenia Walk. Went to the dentist this week for a checkup, will be having my wisdom teeth extracted on Tuesday! I'm anticipating it, but I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to it...

Great

Belated Happy New Year!!!

Back again!
I'm currently serving the balance of my national service in the Singapore Armed Forces, so I've been back in camp and haven't had much opportunity to go snapping. Unlike Sean D., I'm not allowed to bring cameras into camp, which I think is silly, since alot of the camp is used by some of the personnel during their wedding shoots.

Anyway that aside, I was at Changi international airport today with Jasmine. The above photos were taken at an indoor water feature. Enjoy, and have a great weekend!

The eyes of the fly

Those oddly textured domes belong to the Esplanade, the new (relatively) arts centre in Singapore. They've been compared to the eyes of flies, durians, porcupines and what have you. Honestly I think they look ugly during the day, but they're quite interesting subjects when theyr'e lit up in the night.

i actually thought it was a nice building when i was there ... but this photo certainly captures the beauty of it at nighttime

I thought it's a nice building too! Oh well... To each his own. I know many Singaporeans don't like it. Maybe I'm the odd ball then.. Tue 30-Dec-2003 15:28

Boat Quay

One of the night life belts in Singapore, a row of restaurants, pubs and nightclubs sits on the banks of the Singapore river. I'm not a clubber myself, but I wonder how people survive a walk through there; we could here the booming music from our little vantage point almost a kilometer away!

Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all!

Finally got the computer at home loaded with my camera drivers... haven't been able to upload anything at all! Been quite hectic since I got back, settling back in my room, catching up with friends 'n all

Oh and I built a new bike too!

Btw, the photos were taken in Orchard Road, the heart of shopping in Singapore. The lights used to be alot more dazzling some years back, but the recent economic situation means all the department stores have no money to put up elaborate displays...

they were just putting these up when i was there last month .. nice to see the finished results, thankyou. and happy christmas to you and jas!
