Headed off to KL for one night to visit the relatives on my mum's side. Its nice to see everyone again especially after a full year, but I'm just not a people person and conversations are a huge burden to me, especially conversations with people who are important in my life but whom I don't really know very well. Making small talk with strangers is often no big issue, but trying to make meaningful conversation with someone I know I should know better is a nightmare, and my goldfish memory doesn't make it any easier. Sometimes I end up hiding behind my camera, a great excuse for not standing around to chat. Its gotta end sometime though, and I wonder when that will be....

The lunar new year is hear again! An old British friend of mine who had moved to Shanghai for a couple of months complained of how there was a lack of festivity and fireworks to usher in 2006 on the first of January. That's not entirely surprising, given that the Chinese calendar runs slightly different from our Gregorian ones, and the season for fireworks in China begins tomorrow, to usher in the New Year. Actually, the purpose of the fireworks/firecrackers during the Chinese New Year aren't so much a symbol of welcome, but more of warding off evil, but that's another long story entirely.
Here in Singapore, given our multi-racial, international core, we get to celebrate the new year on both calendars. The extra public holiday is welcome even by the other races anyway!
Anyway, to all fellow Chinese, a blessed and prosperous lunar new year, and to everyone else, may God bless you all anyway!

Cold Turkey!

I'm having internet withdrawal symptoms... urghhh
The connection finally got activated yesterday but our router is misbehaving and won't let us connect to the internet via our LAN. Basically that means the bloke with the phone line in his room (Yeah that's you Jon) is the only one that gets online. The rest of us just get to peek at our emails once in a while... 
Gotta get this sorted out QUICK... I feel like a dinosaur..
